SOCIAL NETWORK : How far can it gone ?

Opinions shared about social networks are really mixed.

On the one hand, people say that social network are really beneficial and explain that some website, such as Facebook, Twitter or MySpace..., had changed their life. Indeed, on these social networks people can keep in touch with their childhood friends, their family or even friends who live in others countries. You can share jokes, events, photos or interests.

Moreover, for shy people it can be easier to speak to someone in front of a screen instead of talking face to face.

On the other hand, social networks have several disadvantages.

First, most of these relationships, who are created on these sites, are virtual.

Then, people have around hundreds or thousands of friends nevertheless they do not really know each person. They add people that they do not even met before !

Moreover, social networks, can drive people to worse consequences.

Are Twitter and Facebook kind of drugs ?

How can we know that we are a Facebook or a Twitter addict? We are connected on social networks at least once a day. We spend more time on it than we intend. A boy said that he spend around four hours per day on Facebook after school. He declare that he comments pictures or discuss with friends (even those he saw at school). He add that when he decided to switch off his computer, he turns on his mobile few minutes after to go on Twitter because he had nothing else to do.

If you are addicted to social networks,  you should have a break. You might have to delete your account if you can not just have a break. Actually, it is a bit like stop smoking: it harsh, but then you are glad to have done it.

                       

                                                          

Cyber bulling

We should not forget that social networks can also be a way to bullied people. Phoebe, a 15-year-old Irish girl, took her own life on January 2011.  Indeed, she was a newcomer and students from her school explained that she had difficulties adjusting. They think that she committed a suicide because she was a foreigner so she was victim of racism. She was called name, and bullies taunted her.

Therefore, students decided to pay a tribute to Phoebe. However, some people posted mean comments even after her death.

I advice you to speak out or get help if you are victim of cyber-bullying. Ignore bullies is not the better solution that we can find. According to me, if you do not talk to someone about what you underwent, you will have regrets. Moreover, on social network, everything is spread  faster even insults.

Social networks and Teenagers

Social networks are the first websites allowing the users of the Internet to register and to create their own profile. Social networks are mainly used to exchange messages or private conversations. There are several social networks, the most famous are:

Intended for book lovers, it can create a virtual library. It features excerpts of books.

This social network allows you to build and manage a website or social application. 

It is interesting to notice that the people who are the most present on social networks are teenagers. When we talk about social network, the first thing that people say is:

                                

Teenagers that are on social networks can post everything and are not careful enough about what they post on the Internet such as photos and videos of them. Some people do not think about the consequences that this may have on their life later. Their biggest problem will probably be finding a job which can become more difficult since what they post on social networks can be found at any time (even after ten of years or more). Most people go on social networks to chat with friends, to play online, to help each other. Some teenagers go on forums to ask a question. However, these kinds of forums are less and less used. Nowadays, teenagers prefer to see friends while chatting with them and also sharing photos or other information and watch videos on the Internet.
According to me, social networks are a good way of communication, help people, search information, but they are also very dangerous. Everybody should be careful and shouldn’t be posting anything too personal on the Internet. In this way, social networks can be used without any problem.

       

Not very long ago, a young boy committed suicide because he was being blackmailed on Facebook. A girl recorded him in a compromising situation, and then she threatened to show the video to all his friends, unless he gave her 200 euros. He couldn’t stand this situation and he wrote a note before killing himself explaining that everything was his fault.
I advise you to be careful about what you post on Facebook and who you talk with. Finally, don't accept to go out with an unknown person and don't do stupid things that you will regret later and that can cost you your job or your life !

Be careful about social networks !

  Social networks are a recent concept and a lot of people use it. Nowadays, the main objective is to facilitate the communication with friends or family. It may be for work or just to socialize with others. For the example there are Facebook, MySpace, Twitter or LinkedIn.

  One of the best advantage is that most social networking sites are free, therefore, many people use them which means you can contact people all around the world for free and quickly. Everyone can use social networks. It's accessible for all.

   But there are also negative points. Many people make fake profiles for bad purposes. We can publish anything and everything, that’s why you should be careful about what you post on Facebook. Because when we are young, we are likely to make mistakes and regret them when we are older. Indeed, we can put compromising photos and smear reputation. Furthermore, many persons can see information about us, in your Facebook or Twitter profile. For example, if you apply for a job, it can lower your chances of getting hired, because the employer can see a compromising file about you. In top of that all, the information are saved we can't delete what we have put in our profile.Some people say that they haven't got any problems with Facebook and think that it is great. However, situations happen when a person is being blackmailed by another one.

Social networks mosly impact teenagers. We can spend a lot of time on Facebook and be addicted and alone. Many people want to quit going on Facebook because they are addicted. That’s why we should be careful about the social networks. Nethertheless, Facebook is an efficient way to communicate. But we should be careful!

Are we all prisoners in their web?

Nowadays, more than one billion people use social networks. I do too, but with caution.

There are a lot of social networks and each one definitely has its own advantages: Facebook permits us to share a lot of things with friends, to talk with them, to keep in touch with people, YouTube is used to share and watch videos and twitter enables us to stay informed all the time when Linked-in is more professional and helps people to simplify their job search. Everybody can find what they are looking for on these sites. Therefore most social analysts recognize that it is important for young people to have accounts on these social networks in our current society.

But some persons have become victims of these social networks in different ways. Some of them need them to live and are addicted to them, and some psychologists point out that it can lead to damaging social enclosing. In fact, a lot of people who have an account spend more time dealing with that than they intended to. Others are victims of ridiculous pictures of them that they posted many years ago and that prevent them from finding a job, because the employers check their accounts. These social networks also make it easier for offenders to organize riots or for bullies to make fun of a scapegoat, which can lead people like Amanda Todd to commit suicide.

On the one hand, social networks provide many good things, but on the other hand, they can destroy lives. So people have to be careful when they use them. Obama said that he wanted everybody to be careful about what they post. People should listen to him. They should also try to spend less time on social networks. To my mind, these can be very useful if we follow all the advice given and if we remain cautious, but they should not take too much room in our lives.

DANGERS OF SOCIAL NETWORKS

Nowadays, a lot of people have a social network account. But more often, they don’t know the dangers on social networks, and they think that there are only good sides.

Indeed, you should be careful on that websites because you can make mistakes when you are a teenager and it can be a problem when you will seek a job. In fact, a lot of employers look at the accounts of their future employees. Moreover, some people make a fake account to destroy someone’s reputation or to bully them. Because of that, social networks users committed suicide. There exist others types of dangers like addiction for example. Obama said during a session that whatever you do, compromising information will be pulled up again later somewhere in your life.  Even if social networks are dangerous, they can also be useful. For example we can share photos; we can also be in contact with our friends or our family or find people you have lost sight of...

    Social networks are websites on which people communicate around the world. You need an e-mail address and a password to register. Social networks were created to improve relationships, but it became a tool of day-to-day life.

    On private side, social networks extend relationships (family, friends..). We can also post useful information, organize our planning by creating “events”: informing others about our availability. We can use networks to reconnect with friends we may have lost during life.
    On professional side, networks facilitate job findings: we become creative, inspired by the others’ experience. Companies also attract with networks: they can create websites to make advertisements.

    Social networks have not only advantages: as the information posted is visible to all “friends”, there’s a risk of losing control on information... The messages we post can be misinterpreted, or subjects to criticism. Moreover, the people we meet on networks can pretend to be someone else, we will be disappointed when we meet them in real life, or perhaps these people are cyber-bullies.
    
    You should think of how you’ll use networks: is it a communication tool, a way to express your skills?
- Create a professional account separating private/professional life.
- Prefer face-to-face communication: quarrels on networks are more violent than in real, (we can think about what we’ll post, not what we’ll say...)
- Don’t chat with unknown people, only friends: violence on chats is more present than we think.

In first hand social network can be use for keep contact betwen people around the world. For example if you live in france and a member of your family or a friend are in an other country, people said you can called him, it's right but it's not free contrary to social network. The advantages with social network are: it's free, you can send your message all around the world and you can see your addressee.








In the other hand if you can see other people it mean other people can see you. Many people said social network is dangerous. It's right because if a person ask you to be his friend and you don't know who is he, if you accept to be his freind he can see many information about you, and he can use this information to create fake document or buy something with your identity for example.


But there is an other way for "thief" to get information about you. It's the pirating. Social network can't protect you cope this situation. It's our responsability to select what information we can give on social network.
